Factors that Factor into Costs when Outsourcing the Packaging

 If you Have a good product and you want to get it out to others, but you’re not sure whether you want to do this in-house, or outside, you’re not alone. Usually, outsourcing it is good, since you don’t have to manage all the ins and outs of this, and you don’t have to deal with that. 

But if you’ve wanted to outsource it, you want to make sure that you find the best packaging possible. 



With a lot of questions about the outsourcing of packaging, you might wonder what the costs are, and while that question might be simple at the base of it, it’s a lot more complex, and it does involve some questions and elements to take into account. 

Here, we’ll go over what these are, and once you have the answer, you can decide from there. 

The costs 

You need to look at the costs of this, and how much it’ll be for the primary packaging.  For example, size, shape, and even viscosity and the run size are other items that dictate just how much it is. 

What affects all the costs 

There are a few factors that play into making sure that you know just how much it’ll be to outsource, and with this information, it does affect your costs as well. This is a big part of it. Once you look at this, you’ll have a better feel for the costs affected with primary packaging. 

The viscosity is a big part of this. This is the stickiness and thickness of the fiction and how sticky it is. If it’s a sticky type of packaging, this makes things complicated. 

If the product isn’t tacky and is instead dry, it will move better, but if there is a stickiness to it, it’s not going to be as easy to move. 

Let’s take for example candies. If you put gummies through, this has more viscosity. 

In contrast, say like jellybeans or something is a lot less viscous, so it’ll move faster.  It’s something that usually affects how fast it is to produce, the downtime, and the costs that are there, lowering this as well. 

Product Shape and Size 

Another big part of this is the product shape. If the product has a surface that’s consistent, it’s easier to package. In contrast, different products with jagged or spiky edges may have a lot more time and costs factored into this, and it’s something that does affect the costs of outsourcing this too. 

Finally, the size of this does matter too. This means that the bigger the product, the more it’ll take for resources, and vice versa, so it definitely is something to look at. 

The Weight 

Then there is the weight.  If it’s heavy to finish, it’ll cost more. 

Let’s say that you have packaging that’s for an ounce bag of something, versus a five-pound bag. 


Obviously, the one ounce packaging will cost a lot less than the one that’s five pounds, but this is another part of the factors that go into this. 

When it comes to looking at ways to outsource the packaging, there are a lot of factors that go into this, and a whole lot that can play a huge part in this. When it comes to the different ways for you to utilize a product, and utilize outsourcing the packaging, you’ll definitely want to consider possibly all of these factors, and from there, figure out the costs based on these different factors, and what they have to offer for you as well too.
